MASSENA -- Village police say a Massena man who was arrested earlier this year for assaulting a woman was jailed on new sexual abuse charges for allegedly having sexual contact with a teenage girl.
Donovan L. Smith, 19, of 41 Martin St. is charged with third-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors.
A 14-year-old female gave a statement to police and said Smith had sexual contact with her on Sept. 9 around 3:30 p.m. at his residence, according to court documents.
Smith gave a statement to police and said they kissed but went no further, court documents state.
The girl told police the two had been dating since July after meeting through a mutual friend and speaking occasionally on Facebook, according to court documents.
Smith was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald Sharlow and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton, in lieu of $1,000 bail or $2,000 bond, police said.
Smith was charged in a February domestic violence case.
He faced counts of third-degree assault, second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal obstruction of breathing, unlawful imprisonment and second-degree harassment Feb. 9.
He allegedly beat and choked his at-the-time girlfriend, and later allegedly held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her.
