MASSENA -- Village police are investigating an armed robbery at Sunoco which was reported early Monday morning.
Police say the store, at 82 Main St., was robbed by a white male just under 6 feet tall who was wearing a black jacket, black baseball cap, black glasses and tan pants. He was armed with a knife and made off with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.
There were no reported injuries.
Chief Adam Love said he asks anyone with information about the robbery to contact the Massena Police Department at 769-3577 or submit an anonymous tip via their crime tip line 764-5508 or crimetips@massenapd.com.
Love said investigators are not yet sure if the Sunoco robbery is related to several armed robberies of homes that took place on Oct. 25. He has previously stated that the home invasions were not random and the victims were targeted “for a reason.”
He said they aren’t sure of the motive behind the store robbery, but said the recent rash of armed robberies in Massena could be related to drugs.
“It could be due to increased drug use and heroin use, that could have a part in it, but we can’t pinpoint exactly why,” the chief said.
