Massena school changes how facility use requests are handled

MASSENA — The Massena Central School District is changing the way organizations request using school facilities.

They have a new section on their website that includes a calendar showing what dates and times are available, a fee schedule for for-profit and not-for-profit groups, and online submission of insurance and indemnification paperwork.

“We want to make sure we’re allowing the community to use our facilities but we’re doing it in such a way that it complies with the law, that it limits our liability,” Superintendent Pat Brady told the Board of Education on Thursday. “We want people to use our facilities … we don’t see this as putting up barriers to use them.”

People who want to rent school facilities can now do so by going to www.mcs.k12.ny.us, clicking the “district” tab, then “buildings and grounds” and then “building use form.”

It will require users to register and log in.

“There’s no more paper copies, it’s all online … it’s seemingly working well from what we hear,” Brady said.
