MASSENA -- Radio personality Sandy Cook pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor drug charges in Massena Village Court on Tuesday.
Cook is facing one count of seventh-degree criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance.
He was represented in court by attorney Robert Ballan.
The case was adjourned with Cook ordered to re-appear on May 10.
The longtime on-air personality has not returned to the radio.
A co-defendant in Cook’s case, Edward Slade, 24, is to have his initial appearance on May 10. He is in a drug rehabilitation facility in Pennsylvania, according to court officials.
The pair were charged Feb. 12 after village police raided Cook and Slade’s 96 Cook St. residence.
A search turned up heroin, crack cocaine and hypodermic needles, police said at the time.
Cook, who has been a host on 1340 WMSA for about 40 years, is off the airwaves indefinitely.
“He’s off the air until further notice,” said Mark Gaines on Feb. 16. He is regional manager for Stevens Media Group Watertown and Massena markets, which owns 1340 WMSA.
“It’s such a sensitive topic, that’s all I’m going to state as of now,” Gaines said.
Cook’s show, “Morning Drive,” will be staffed by part-timers for now, Gaines added.
In addition to his decades on the airwaves, Cook was a Massena town supervisor from 2001 to 2005 and has been a mainstay at Massena Central sporting events.
The probe which nabbed Cook and Slade ensnared a third suspect a couple weeks after their arrests.
On Feb. 27, police charged Hannah L. Hayden, 24, also of 96 Cook St. with third-degree criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance, both felonies.
