MASSENA -- In light of recent heavy snowfall, village police officials are reminding residents that it is against local laws to push snow across any village-owned or maintained roadway.
“The Department of Public Works employees work hard to effectively maintain the roadways to keep them safe for travel,” Chief Adam Love said in a news release.
He cited section 246-9 of village code that says “No property owner shall allow, or person shall place, deposit nor push any material, to include but be not limited to, snow, dirt, grass, leaves or any other substance into or across any Village-owned or -maintained roadway.”
Love says he is also reminding commercial and private snowplow operators that they must have amber lights “affixed and visible to all approaching traffic under normal atmospheric conditions from 500 feet when engaged in hazardous operation,” per state law.
The amber light must be turned off when not in hazardous operation, Love said.
