MASSENA -- Massena Memorial Hospital recently recognized senior director of professional and practice management Mark Brouillette for his 35 years on the job as he prepared to retire.

Brouillette has worked on the senior administration team for 25 years.

Dave MacLennan, MMH Board of Managers vice chairman, presented Brouillette with an engraved clock as a token of recognition of his dedication. It is engraved, “In grateful recognition for 35 years of dedicated service and commitment to Massena Memorial Hospital. And with sincere appreciation for the many valuable contributions made towards the hospital’s success.”

“Mark has been an outstanding member of the Administrative team and coordinated a lot of projects at MMH. He will truly be missed as a valued member of the team,” MacLennan said in a statement from MMH.

MMH Board of Managers chairman Scott A. Wilson in the news release said “Mark has proven over the years of service to be a gifted hospital executive. His involvement in facilities and in-depth knowledge of NYS Department of Health building regulations is remarkable. He has been an invaluable resource not only overseeing the new construction and remodeling of office buildings and the hospital’s main campus building, but ensuring safety is priority number one. The hospital will be hard pressed to fill the knowledge gap Mark will leave behind as he begins his well deserve retirement. The Board of Managers wishes him and his family all our best as he begins the next chapter of his life.”

Brouillette started his career at MMH as the director of environmental services in 1983 and in three years, his duties expanded with management of maintenance and safety. He continued to take on additional management duties throughout his MMH career as an assistant administrator support services, senior director ancillary services and then practice management.

He oversaw the renovations and construction of many projects at MMH to include three new front entrances, two emergency rooms, two surgical suites, a new intensive care unit, new and expanded maternity. As MMH expanded with numerous clinics, he was in charge of the building of Bushnell and Casey Medical Office Buildings, Louisville and Brasher Family Health Centers, Massena Dialysis, and the new Medical Office Building across from the hospital.

As the hospital safety officer he worked with many staff members to ensure compliance with all state health regulations and Joint Commission requirements.

“I have really enjoyed the continual challenges and stimulation that my job at MMH afforded me. I will miss the annual National Hospital Week’s celebrations, which gave me an opportunity to share with the employees how great they are and how hard they work. There were so many milestones from ribbon cuttings of new buildings and added services,” Brouillette said in a statement from the hospital.

He started his career at MMH as the youngest manager at age 20. He worked with 10 chief executive officers, nine chief financial officers and seven chief nurse executives.

In retirement he plans to spend more time on the water, on the road traveling and maybe more time in the woods, MMH said.
