MASSENA -- A Massena man is jailed for allegedly stealing prescription drugs and nearly $4,000 worth of jewelry from his mother.
Ryan A. VanBuskirk, 20, of 71 Maple St. Apt. B is charged with a felony count of third-degree grand larceny and misdemeanors including fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and fifth-degree conspiracy. He was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
VanBuskirk and an accomplice allegedly took a black box from beneath his mother Maryann VanBuskirk’s bed at 73 Bishop Avenue, according to court documents. Papers filed with the court also indicate that he would not name his alleged accomplice.
The box contained $3,875 worth of jewelry, including two bracelets, a necklace and earrings, court documents say.
Statements from arresting officers say that VanBuskirk told them he gave the box to his unnamed accomplice who opened it, kept the jewelry and gave VanBuskirk the prescription pills and an “unknown illegal substance.”
When police attempted to arrest VanBuskirk, he allegedly put up his fists, struggled and tried to headbutt officers, according to court documents.
VanBuskirk was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald Sharlow and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton in lieu of $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond.
