MASSENA -- The treasurer of the Massena Permanent Firefighters Association is charged with two felonies for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from the union’s bank account.
Jeremy C. Lefeve, 31, of 479 County Rte. 39, Massena is charged with third-degree grand larceny and first-degree falsifying business records, police said.
According to court documents, he stole $5,630 from the union’s bank account through fraudulent ATM withdrawals from September 2014 until this month.
From March 15, 2012 until July 30 of this year, Lefeve allegedly falsified meeting logs to cover up his theft, court documents state.
Mayor Tim Currier said Lefeve has been placed on administrative leave with pay, pending the outcome of the case.
“All of our employees have protections under the rules governing civil service, their collective bargaining agreements and under the law and we intend to respect those rights,” Currier said.
Lefeve was arraigned Thursday by Massena Town Justice Gerald Sharlow and released under supervision of the St. Lawrence County Probation Department, police said.
