MASSENA -- Carly Lalone, an MCHS 11th grade student, took first place in Round 1 of the Classical Singer Vocal Competition in May at the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, qualifying to compete in the next round in Boston.
With the help of a Massena Music Friends (MMF) scholarship, she traveled to Boston for the competition.
Charlene Dumas of Massena Music Friends said that on her return to the North Country, the young vocalist reported that "although she did not make it to the final round of the competition, she had a wonderful experience and learned a great deal from the other participants and especially from the world-class professional classical singers that she worked with and sang for."
Earlier last month, Carly scored a 99 on an All-State level vocal solo at the NYSSMA Solo festival held at Crane. The "All-State" level is the highest level of adjudication possible.
Carly is the daughter of Michael and Kris Lalone. She plans to pursue a career in music following her high school graduation in 2019.
