MASSENA -- The Board of Education made 10 hires, appointed more than 20 substitutes, okayed leaves, resignations and retirements, and fired one person.

The board made hires including: Jefferson Elementary teacher aide Allison Dix, effective Aug. 30, 2018, $18,531 salary; Nightengale Elementary teaching assistant Maria LaPage, effective Sept. 4, 2018 to Sept. 3, 2022, $32,321 salary; Jefferson Elementary Title VI teacher Shelero, effective Oct. 22, $59,019 salary; Joyce French, Jefferson senior food service manager, effective Nov. 2, $20,986 pro-rated salary; Kim Berry, junior high three-hour-per-day food service helper, effective Sept. 21, 2018, $9,037 pro-rated salary; Jeanette Denesha, junior high 2.5-hour-per-day food service helper, $6,695 pro-rated salary, effective Sept. 21; Joyce French, two-hour-per-day bus monitor, effective Sept. 17, $5,475 pro-rated salary with reduction in hours; Paula Mendies, Nightengale 2.25-hour-per-day cafeteria monitor, effective Sept. 11, $6,160 pro-rated salary with addition in hours; Nicole Monroe, Nightengale two-hour-per-day cafeteria monitor, effective Sept. 11, $5,475 pro-rated salary with reduction in hours.

The board permanently appointed Community Schools site coordinator Kristin Collarusso-Martin at a $57,000 salary.

The board appointed substitutes including: Joshua Jock, Nightengale long-term teacher with certification, effective Sept. 4 to Oct. 16, $100 to $150 per day; Melinda Barton, long-term high school English teacher, Sept. 26 to Oct. 10, $90 per day; Rachel Janos, Jefferson teaching assistant, effective Aug. 30, $85 per day; Joan Bulger and Krista Tresa, teacher/teaching assistant with certifications, effective Sept. 4, $100 per day; Jamie LaBarge, Valerie Jones, Gabrielle Miller, Jennifer Houle and Barb DeLine, teacher/teaching assistant, effective Sept. 4, $90 or $85 per day; Cassandra Michaud, Kim McGregor and Joanne Gollinger, teacher/teaching assistant, effective Sept. 21, $90 or $85 per day.

Jones, LaBarge, Miller, DeLine, Michaud, Gollinger and McGregor were also named support staff substitutes effective in September at $11.25 per hour. The board appointed other support staff subs starting in September at the same wage that included Chrystal Massaro, Sarah Huto, Jennessa Hillenbrand, Sherry Engel and Allison Agen.

The board granted leaves of absence to: high school food service helper and bus monitor Bobbi Jo Wright, effective Aug. 30 to Nov. 4; junior high food service helper Tammy Ashley, effective Aug. 30 to Oct. 1; and keyboard specialist Claudeen Watkins, from Sept. 24 to a to-be-determined date.

The board adjusted the dates for Nightengale Elementary teacher Megan Morley's leave of absence, which is now Sept. 4 to Oct. 16.

The board accepted resignations from high school food service helper/bus monitor Katelyn Borey, effective Aug. 29; Steven Booth, who worked in the high school 3-5 Recovery Program, effective Aug. 30; and Martha Duchscherer, who worked in the high school Community Work Base Program Club, effective Aug. 30.

The board accepted bus mechanic Richard Ward's retirement on Sept. 29.

Lastly, the board terminated cook Dawn Fregoe effective Sept. 13, 2018.
