Massena approves coaches, substitutes; accepts resignations and retirements

MASSENA — The Board of Education on Thursday night approved a roster of spring sports coaches, along with substitute teachers and teacher aides. They also approved leaves of absence, resignations and retirements.

Spring sports coaches include: varsity baseball coach Greg Paquin, $5,199 salary, along with volunteers Taylor Zappia and Adrian Taraska; Steve Lashomb, junior varsity baseball coach, $3,614 salary, volunteer Alex Kormanyos; modified baseball coach Sam Zappia, $2,968 salary, along with volunteers John Acton and Pete Firnstein; varsity softball coach Susan Macaulay along with volunteers Lisa McKeel, Stephanie McKeel, Shannon Dillabough and April Charleson; JV softball coach Michelle Trimboli, $3,388 salary; modified softball coach Ashley Blanchard, $2,743 salary.

Also, varsity boys lacrosse coach Kris Covell, $5,199 salary, along with volunteer Robert Davis; varsity girls lacrosse coach Jeff Slack, $4,617 salary, along with volunteer Robert Todd; modified boys lacrosse coach Jim Morrell, $2,743 salary, along with volunteer Sean Faucher; modified girls lacrosse coach Ed Letham, $2,743 salary, along with volunteer Troy Mitchell.

Also, golf coach Mike Matejcik, $2,743 salary; girls spring track coach Dak Zaza, $5,199 salary, along with volunteer Teresa Grigg; boys spring track coach Thomas Oldenburgh, $4,002 salary.

Substitutes approved include: Gerard Jemison, junior high long-term sub, $100 to $150 per day, starting March 5; Joshua Jock, junior high long-term sub, $100 to $150 per day, Jan. 11 to March 2; Murphy Newman, long-term high school guidance counselor sub, March 1 to June 30, $85 to $120 per day; Maria LaPage, longer-term Nightengale Elementary teaching assistance sub, Jan. 29 to April 30, $100 per day; Keely Pomainville and Jean Johnson, teacher/teaching assistant subs, $85 per day each; James Delosh and James Ralston II, support staff subs, $10.50 per hour.

The board approved leaves of absence including motor vehicle operators Michael Converse (Feb. 12 to May 12) and Cindy Deshaies (Jan. 11 to Feb. 5) for medical reasons, and Trudy Callahan (Jan. 16 to TBD) and Kim Wells (Jan. 29 to TBD) for family medical leave; Nightengale teaching assistant Kari Martin, Jan. 22 to April 30; and keyboard specialist Tracey Adams from Feb. 12 to March 12.

The board accepted resignations of Jefferson Elementary food service helper Rozanne Garrow, effective Jan. 26 and district treasurer Erica LaGarry, effective Feb. 15.

The board accepted retirement notices from Jefferson Elementary special education teacher Donna Henrie effective June 30, Nightengale Elementary teacher Karen Chauvin effective Aug. 31 and motor vehicle mechanic Kevin Coughenour effective Sept. 1.

The board passed two salary adjustments. Jefferson Elementary teacher Katherine Lomanto is now making $40,455 annually after completing her master’s degree. High school special education teacher Steven Booth is now making $52,083 annually after completing additional coursework.
