BRASHER – A Massachusetts man was sent to jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail Thursday night after being arrested in the multiple stabbing of a Massena man.
State police charged Doland R. Sylvia, 26, Palmer, Mass., with second degree assault, third degree criminal possession of a weapon, and unlawful possession of marijuana.
He is alleged to have stabbed Richard L. Manford, 32, of Parker Avenue, Massena, several times in the back early Thursday morning.
Police first received a call to 911 at about 4:21 a.m. Thursday regarding a man who was allegedly cut by broken glass at 749 NYS Hwy. 11C, apartment 1, Brasher Falls.
When Tri-Town Rescue and police responded, they discovered Manford had been stabbed.
Sylvia had fled the scene but was taken into custody a short time later by United States Border Patrol agents and turned over to state police.
Manford was transported to Massena Memorial Hospital where he was stabilized and transported to Fletcher-Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. Manford was treated and later released from Fletcher-Allen.
Sylvia was arraigned in Town of Brasher Court in front of Justice John L. Burns and sent to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash or $100,000 bail bond. The case will be held pending grand jury action.
State police were assisted in the investigation by members of the Border Patrol and St Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
