MORRISTOWN -- A Pennsylvania man who had just finished water skiing was killed Tuesday after his left leg was severely injured by a boat propeller, according to state police.

The accident occurred about one-quarter mile west of the Village of Morristown in the St. Lawrence River at approximately 1 p.m., police said.

Christopher J. Tobiasz, 57, of South Williamsport, Penn., had finished water skiing behind his personal boat operated by a family member when he was struck by the propeller as he attempted to re-enter the rear of the boat, police said.

Tobiasz was helped into the boat by family members. An off-duty environmental conservation officer and his family were boating nearby and went to help.

The officer tried to help with the injuries while they traveled to the dock, and administered CPR on the dock while they waited 10 muniutes for medical and police help to arrive.

Tobiasz was transported to River Hospital in Alexandria Bay where he was pronounced dead.

Police said they are continuing their investigation into the incident. A post-mortem examination was planned to help determine the cause and manner of death, police said.
