MORRISTOWN -- A New Hampshire man is dead after he attempted to save his son from drowning following a Wednesday morning boating accident on Black Lake.
Allen S. Lighthall, 51, was found submerged and deceased by the Lisbon Fire Department Dive Team following the accident.
The cause of Allen Lighthall's death is pending an autopsy.
State police say they responded to a reported boating accident at 8 a.m. on Black Lake.
Investigation revealed Allen S. Lighthall, 51, of Milford, New Hampshire was operating a 17-foot long Monarch boat in a northerly direction on Black Lake.
Allen's son, Scott A. Lighthall, 13, and Allen's brother, Edward W. Lighthall, 53 of Prospect, were passengers in the boat.
None of the occupants were wearing life preservers at the time of the accident.
The boat struck a submerged rock, which caused Scott to be ejected from the bow of the boat.
Allen entered the water in an attempt to rescue Scott.
Neither Scott nor Allen could sustain themselves and succumbed to the water.
Scott was rescued by an uninvolved boater, and transported to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where he is listed in stable, yet critical condition.
Edward sustained minor lacerations and was transported to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg for treatment.
