MADRID – A malfunctioning chimney has been blamed for a fire that caused minor damage to a home at 301 Chipman Corners Rd. Sunday night, according to St. Lawrence County fire investigators.
The Madrid Fire Department and Rescue Squad responded at 10:10 p.m. to the house owned by Howard Rutherford.
Mutual aid was provided by the Waddington, Lisbon and Morley fire departments. The Heuvelton, Canton and West Potsdam fire departments were on standby.
Madrid firefighters returned to the station at 11:49 p.m.
Two people live in the house, which was insured, investigators said.
