A Louisville firefighter has been given the Northern New York Volunteer Firemen's Association’s 2011 Meritorious Service Award.
Louisville Volunteer Fire Department Lieutenant Norman Worden was able to render assistance to a woman at the Tail of the Pup restaurant on the Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Road last summer. The woman was in distress and apparently having a panic attack.
Worden, who was returning with fellow Louisville firefighters from a firematic drill, was able to provide care until the Lake Placid Ambulance Squad arrived.
Worden is a longtime volunteer, and has been active in the department, securing a grant from Alcoa for rebuilding the station sign, and organizing training drills.
The nomination was made by Chief Robert John Sheets and the award was presented at the NNYVFA annual convention at Copenhagen.
