Louisville man accused of assaulting officer investigating unattended baby report

MASSENA -- A Louisville resident is jailed after allegedly assaulting a police officer who was responding to a call that the man had left a baby unattended in his truck.

Robert I. Carr, 31, of county Route 56, Louisville is charged with second-degree assault, felony, resisting arrest, second-degree harassment and unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.

Village police say the responded to a call around 8 p.m. Saturday night that a screaming and crying baby had been left unattended in a running pickup truck outside Woody’s General Store on East Orvis Street.

Carr, who was inside the store, came out to find one of the people who had called police had removed the baby from the truck and was holding it. Carr told the couple it was his son, court documents state.

Police arrived and a scuffle soon ensued. Carr allegedly wrestled three police officers to the ground and struck Ptl. Dustin Currier three times in the head with his knee, court documents state.

Police also allegedly found .19 grams of marijuana after arresting and searching Carr, the documents said.

Carr was arraigned in Massena Village Court by Acting Justice Patrick Serguson, who remanded him to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility in Canton in lieu of $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond.
