CANTON -- Experimental musicians Figure From Ground, who come from Canton and Malone, have released an album with the Game of Life label in Greece.

The band is an experimental music quartet that includes Claude Aldous, Ola Aldous, Michael Hart and Ramon Vasquez.

They began working together in the summer of 2017, creating and documenting improvised soundscapes using modular synthesizers, prepared and effected piano, contact microphones, found objects, and voice.

The group has been played on CKCU’s Acoustic Frontiers radio program in Ottawa, Canada on multiple occasions. They are beginning to perform farther afield, with events in Utica, Ithaca, Catskill, Boston, New York City and Philadelphia.

The Game of Life label began releasing music in 2012 and have since released 59 albums by artists in approximately 18 countries.

Figure From Ground is the first act from the United States on the label released since 2015. They are the label’s first quartet.

The label “aims to introduce artists working with alternative techniques through modular synthesizers, purpose built instruments, and custom made electronics. Game of Life’s carefully curated discography is noted to possess an excellent breadth of contemporary experimental electronic music," a news release said.

Figure From Ground’s self-titled release is available for download via https://gameoflife.bandcamp.com/album/figure-from-ground-figure-from-ground

Game of Life releases are free in perpetuity, consistent with the label's goal to “promote and extend a network of people interested in sound, synthesis, music, and visual arts," the release said.
