LISBON -- The state will pay $50,000 for improvements at the Lisbon Town Hall, according to a recent announcement from Sen. Patty Ritchie, R-Heuvelton.
Built in 1889, the Lisbon Town Hall houses several key town offices, including the town court. It is also the home for town meetings and a youth basketball program in the winter. Town officials had looked into constructing a new town hall in the past but decided to spend money upgrading the heating system and renovating its current, historic office space instead, according to Ritchie’s office.
“Without the support of Senator Ritchie, we would not be able to maintain the building as it should be,” Bill Dashnaw, the budget director for the Town of Lisbon, said in a prepared statement from Ritchie’s office. “This project would not be done without state funding and we thank Senator Ritchie for her support and concern for improving our town’s facilities.”
“Small towns often have difficulties raising the funds needed to do major renovation work,” Ritchie said in a prepared statement. “That’s why I am pleased to secure support to help these municipalities preserve their historical buildings and still efficiently provide town services to their residents.”
