LISBON -- Lisbon Central School’s Interact group is currently selling pink ribbons this week to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
The organization currently has approximately 30 members ranging from grades 9 to 12.
Lisbon’s Interact group works throughout the year to volunteer and fundraise for various charities and community causes.
The money raised from the pink ribbon sales will ultimately be combined with several other fundraisers for the American Cancer Society, which the group plans to donate at the Edward Moses Cancer walk on St. Lawrence University's campus in April.
Last year, Lisbon’s Interact group raised $2,000 for this event.
Becky Akins has served as the group’s advisor for more than 10 years.
According to Akins, “Our goal is always to raise more money than the year before, and we hope to present a big donation this year. We will combine all of the proceeds from the pink ribbon sales, casual day funds, and some other fundraising efforts into our final donation. ”
Each month, the Interact group sponsors one casual day, during which teachers can donate $2 to wear jeans on Friday. The group votes monthly on a non-profit organization to donate the proceeds. Last month, for instance, they raised $90 for the SPCA.
