LISBON -- Lisbon fifth Graders Learn recently made blankets for dogs in the Iditarod.
The 1,000-mile sled race from Willow to Nome, Alaska takes place every year in March.
This year, Laura LaBarge's fifth grade class made 15 blankets to send for the dropped dogs. Dropped dogs are dogs that for whatever reason, have to be left at a checkpoint along the trail to Nome.
The blankets are dogs that aren't able to finish the race and need to be flown back to Anchorage to await pickup by their owner.
The class will also be doing some math problems to figure out how many dog booties and other supplies the musher must have on hand for their team.
In addition, students will calculate their mileage and race time, and watch videos while tracking mushers along the trail.
