LISBON — Lisbon Athletic Director Erika Backus received a NYSPHSAA “School of Distinction” award for the 2017-18 school year.

Of 768 schools across New York State, Lisbon was one of only 30 schools to receive this statewide honor, and the only school in Section X to do so. To qualify for the School of Distinction award, each of the varsity teams met the NYSPHSAA State scholar athlete team requirements during their sports seasons.

Schools can earn School of Distinction status by having 100% of its varsity teams qualify for and receive the scholar athlete team award during their respective sports seasons. To earn the School of Excellence Award, 75% of a school’s varsity teams must qualify and receive the scholar athlete team award.

During the 2016-2017 school year, Lisbon received the School of Excellence Award.

"We are so honored and extremely proud of our Lisbon Student Athletes. Their hard work and dedication are evident in the classroom and on the playing field,” said Backus. “To have received NYSPHSAA honors the last two years is a tremendous accomplishment for our district, students, staff and our athletes. Congratulations, Knights!"

“Our student athletes strive for success and truly embody teamwork and determination,” said Superintendent Patrick Farrand.“We are tremendously proud of our scholar athletes, and grateful to our dedicated coaches and Athletic Director Erika Backus for their mentorship and guidance.”

The Lisbon Central School District serves approximately 600 students.
