FINE -- A Harrisville man was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs following a reported hit-and-run accident Wednesday evening, according to state police.
Donald W. Fowler, 21, was charged at 10:20 p.m. with first-offense operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, speeding and operator leaving the scene of a property-damage accident.
Fowler lost control of his 2006 Chevrolet Impala while driving north on State Route 58 near the fire department, troopers said. His vehicle exited the roadway striking a utility pole, road sign, guard wire and cement bench.
Fowler left the scene but one of his license plates was found at the scene, officers said.
Troopers located Fowler a short time later on Ames Road in Edwards.
Upon interviewing him, troopers determined that he was impaired by drugs. Police did not say what the drug was.
He was released on appearance tickets returnable to Fine court on April 12.
