Laurentian Chapter of Adirondack Mountain Club member wins photo contest for summit pic

The photo "Dix Summit Jan. 14, 2012" by Art Boni received top honors in the Adirondack Mountain Club 2012 Photo Contest.

The Laurentian Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club has announced the winners of their 2012 Photo Contest at their annual meeting Nov. 17. Art Boni of Ottawa received the grand prize award for the photo “Dix Summit Jan. 14, 2012.”

Prizes were also awarded in four categories. Toni Towle of Gananoque was recognized for the best submittal in the action category, for the photo titled “Summiting Iroquois.” In the landscape category, Art Boni was again recognized for his photo “Long Way Home—Junction of Van Hoevenberg and Phelps Trails.” Ron Larsen of Canton won the nature category, with the photo “Fragrant Water Lilies.” In the people category, Nikki Coates of Potsdam was recognized for her untitled photo taken on the summit of Ampersand Mountain.

Jeff Miller of Potsdam and Art Boni both received honorable mentions in two categories. Jeff for the photos “Kayaker Paddling through Hopewell Rocks, Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick” and “Rebecca Miller admires the view of the Bay of Islands from Blow Me Down Mt., Newfoundland.” Art’s honorable mention photos are titled “Ice Contours- Gatineau Park, Quebec,” and “Algonquin Climb Jan. 21, 2012.” The full set of winning photos can be viewed on the Laurentian Chapter web site, www.adklaurentian.org/.

The photo contest attracted over 150 entries from Chapter members and others participating in chapter outings. Contest judges were Dick Mooers, Potsdam, Blair Madore, Potsdam, and Jim Bullard, Hannawa Falls.
