OGDENSBURG -- A jamboree for Ogdensburg Native Michelle Disotell is planned for Saturday, Feb. 9 at Ghize’s Family Restaurant, 720 Main St.

Disotell, a single mother and sole caregiver for her young daughter, was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma.

Multiple myeloma is a cancer of the blood. It develops in plasma cells, which are white blood cells in the bone marrow that help fight infection. In multiple myeloma, cancer cells build up in bone marrow and take over the healthy blood cells.

With this condition, a group of plasma cells becomes cancerous and multiplies. These abnormal proteins can damage the bones, kidneys, immune system, and red blood cell count.

Disotell will undergo a stem cell transplantation, also referred to as a bone marrow transfusion. During this procedure unhealthy blood-forming cells are replaced with healthy cells. Afterwards she will be hospitalized for at least a month.

She is currently unable to work due to her illness. Money raised will be used for medical expenses.

The jamboree will start at 1 p.m. with live music by Shawn Stoddard & The BackWater Blues Band. There will also be 50/50’s, raffles, and karaoke.
