COLTON -- Improvements at the Jamestown Falls river access site near Sevey’s Corners are complete, according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
Access to the site is on the east side of Rt. 56 on a dirt road about two and a half miles north of Sevey’s Corners and the intersection with State Rt. 3. It is within the Raquette River Wild Forest, and includes an accessible parking space and a hand-carry/car-top launch at the Raquette River.
The improvements, worth about $35,000, include a newly rehabilitated access road to reduce erosion, an accessible primitive campsite, a privy, a fire ring, a picnic table, a tent pad, and an information kiosk. The work was paid for by New York Works.
“The improvements performed at the Jamestown Falls area is a nice improvement, giving access to all,” said St. Lawrence County District 7 Legislator Rick Perkins. “This is the type of investment we need and that will help promote tourism in our remote areas. This will be another great destination for the outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy."
