POTSDAM – A quick knock down of a blaze by firefighters limited damage to the home of former attorney Jerry Leek at 107 South Canton Road Tuesday afternoon, according to the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to the fire at 1:05 p.m. and were reportedly on scene at 1:14 p.m.
The quick response limited fire damage to a single room on the second floor and smoke damage to the entire second floor, fire officials said.
“Good salvage and overhaul operations prevented any damage to the first floor,” officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the St. Lawrence County Fire Investigation Team.
The Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department was provided mutual aide by firefighters from Canton, West Potsdam and Hannawa Falls with West Stockholm on standby.
The Potsdam Rescue Squad, St. Lawrence County Deputy Fire/EMS coordinator and Niagra Mohawk were also reportedly on scene
There were no firefighter or civilian injuries, officials said.
