HEUVELTON -- A Heuvelton man was jailed after trying to ingest heroin while being arrested on a trespassing charge stemming from an incident that was reported in late December, according to state police.

Gregory A. James, 44, was charged with tampering with physical evidence, felony, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, resisting arrest and second-degree criminal trespassing, officers said.

James was found in possession of .4 grams of heroin, three hypodermic needles, approximately 3.9 grams of hashish and a small quantity of marijuana, troopers said.

He was arraigned in Lisbon Town Court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond, officers said.

He is scheduled to appear in Ogdensburg court Jan. 22 at 9 a.m. to face the charges.
