POTSDAM -- A Hannawa Falls woman was charged with driving while intoxicated on U.S. Highway 11 after leaving the scene of a property-damage accident involving a U-Haul box truck, according to state police.
Troopers said they received a report that a U-Haul truck had struck a street sign in the Village of Canton and continued driving east on U.S. Highway 11.
Officers said they located the vehicle just outside the Village of Potsdam and upon interviewing the driver they determined her to be intoxicated.
Crystal L. Torres, 26, was charged with first-offense DWI, operating leaving the scene of a property-damage accident, refusal to take a breath test and drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle on a highway.
She was released on her own recognizance to appear in Potsdam court on Oct. 22 at 9:30 a.m. in front of Judge Charleson.
