POTSDAM — A Hannawa Falls man was arrested Friday morning after allegedly driving drunk and then hitting the arresting officer in the chest with his tickets, according to Potsdam police.
Hanna was observed driving south on Pierrepont Avenue driving in the center turn lane and crossing onto the shoulder, almost exiting the roadway, police said.
A patrol car attempted to initiate a traffic stop and Hanna allegedly refused to comply for about a mile, police said.
When Hanna finally stopped on state Route 56, police said they found him to be intoxicated.
He refused to submit to a breath test and was taken into custody for DWI, officers said. Police allegedly located an open alcoholic beverage in the vehicle and a check of his license revealed it to be suspended.
After being issued the tickets, Hanna hit the arresting officer in the chest with them, resulting in a harassment charge.
He was also charged with second-degree harassment, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, driving across hazard marking and driving in center lane, police said.
He is to appear in Potsdam court March 14 at 10 a.m. to face the charges, police said.
