CANTON -- The E. J. Noble Guild of Canton and the Potsdam Hospital Guild joined the family of the late Jack K. Newman this summer to dedicate a memorial bench facing the butterfly garden at the E. J. Noble Professional Building.

The bench and building are located at 80 East Main St.

Newman was a fixture of Canton community life, holding membership in the Canton Lions Club, the Canton Club, the Canton Town Republicans, the Canton Sportsman Club, the Stillwater Club, the St. Lawrence Golf and Country Club, and the Canton United Methodist Church.

He served on the Board of Directors of the Evergreen Cemetery and served on the Canton Village Board of Assessment and Review. He was also a member of the Canton VFW. Following the dedication ceremony, the two Guilds held their annual Garden Tour, which included nine gardens in the Canton area.

The Guilds and the CPH Foundation raise funds for the benefit of patients served by CPH. The Guilds host fundraising events throughout the year and the Potsdam Hospital Guild operates the Hospital Gift Shop.

Those interested in supporting patient care in their community may mail a check to the Foundation at 50 Leroy Street, Potsdam, NY 13676.
