GOUVERNEUR -- A village resident is jailed after trying to rob a consignment shop.
Around 10:51 a.m. the same day, village police responded to a report of an attempted robbery at Main Street Consignment, 59-67 Main St.
Police say the owner told them a white male approached the counter and displayed what appeared to be a silver handgun and demanded money. The owner refused and the perpetrator left on foot, police said.
Police say on John Street, they found a jacket and ball cap they believe the suspect wore. A citizen noticed the clothing and reported it to police as they arrived in the area. Investigators later found the alleged handgun nearby, which turned out to be an air pistol, police said.
Speaking with citizens led them to a female walking on West Main Street who matched the description of the robbery suspect, police. said.
Rocker was picked at 12:35 p.m. and police say she admitted to the crime.
She was arraigned in Gouverneur Town Court by Justice Stan Young and remanded to the St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, in lieu of $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond, police said.
Gouverneur police say they were assisted by state troopers, a state police K9 and county sheriff deputies.
