GOUVERNEUR – A Gouverneur woman was jailed July 22 after being arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs and then refusing to exit a police car following a courtesy ride, according to Gouverneur police.
Cristi L. Bush, 45, was charged at 8:54 a.m. with driving while ability impaired by drugs and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, officers said.
Police responded to the Kinney Drugs store parking lot after receiving a complaint of a possible impaired driver.
Officers said the defendant was operating a 2008 Chrysler Pacifica while impaired by drugs and her New York State driver’s license was suspended.
Bush was provided a courtesy ride upon release from Gouverneur Hospital to a family member’s residence, police said.
When the family member refused to allow her at the residence another family member arrived to offer Bush a ride home. Bush then allegedly refused to exit the police car and engaged in yelling and screaming.
After being notified that her refusal to comply would result in arrest she still refused, police said. She slapped at the officer’s hand and pulled away.
Bush was charged at 8:30 p.m. on West Barney Street for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration, police said.
She was arraigned before Justice Stanley Young at Gouverneur Town Court and remanded to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $1,000 bail.
