GOUVERNEUR — Gouverneur police are warning Pokemon Go players of all ages to refrain from entering private properties and other areas not open to the public while playing the game.
Gouverneur police say they have experienced a rise in trespassing and suspicious person complaints attributed to citizens chasing Pokemon characters for the recently released game.
Areas include but are not limited to churches, the Gouverneur Museum, village parks, and businesses.
Officers said they have found people wandering behind the Municipal Building which house the Gouverneur Police Department.
Police say if citizens are on these properties without permission or during non-business hours, they make themselves “vulnerable to arrest.”
Police remind citizens about the safety issues associated with unknown individuals on private property.
“Please do not break the law in order to advance in the game,” police said.
No arrests have been made so far related to Pokemon Go, officers said.
