GOUVENEUR -- Gouverneur Police say a village resident is jailed without bail after allegedly breaking into his neighbor's apartment and getting stabbed multiple times.

Joseph D. Rivers, 52, of 120 Grove St. Apt. 4 is charged with attempted second-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief, both felonies, as well as misdemeanor second-degree criminal trespass and second-degree harassment, a violation.

Police responded to a report of a stabbing at the building at 6:46 p.m. Wednesday and say they discovered Rivers with five non-life-threatening stab wounds.

Chief Laurina Greenhill said Rivers is alleged to have committed the crimes in Apt. 3.

Investigators would not comment on who they believe is the attacker, only saying their investigation in continuing.

Rivers was arraigned in Fowler Town Court by Justice Paul Lamson and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton. He is being held without bail due to two prior felony convictions, police said.
