GOUVERNEUR – A Gouverneur man was jailed early Monday after reportedly breaking into a residence where he punched, choked and threw a woman around by her neck, according to state police.

Mark A. Weir, 44, was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary after troopers say they responded to a burglary at 1599 State Highway 11 around 12:30 a.m.

The 46-year old female victim at the address reportedly advised responding troopers that Weir had broken into the residence and punched her in the face several times. Weir also choked her and threw her around the residence by her neck causing the victim to sustain injuries, troopers said.

Weir was located and arrested on scene, officers said.

He was arraigned at the Fowler Town Court and sent to St. Lawrence County Jail on $25,000 bail and $50,000 bond.

He is scheduled to reappear in court May 23 at 4 p.m.
