GOUVERNEUR -- A Gouverneur man faces multiple charges after allegedly entering a man's home and assaulting him, state police say.

Ronald L. Fifield, 56, was charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree menacing and third-degree assault.

At 9:50 p.m., Sunday state Police responded to 19 Dodds Road, in the town of Gouverneur for a report of a fight between two men.

The victim was sleeping inside his residence when Fifield allegedly forced his way into the residence and punched the victim in the face.

Fifield then allegedly grabbed a steak knife within the residence and attempted to stab the victim.

An altercation ensued between the two men and another individual inside the residence was able to get the knife away from Fifield and contact police.

Fifield was arraigned at the Gouverneur Town Court and sent to St. Lawrence County jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

Fifield is scheduled to reappear on May 29, 2014 at 3 p.m.
