GOUVERNEUR – Police who went to arrest a former county inmate who, while in jail, wrote a letter to a person under a protection order, found him at his residence with the protected person.
St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies said that Ryan M. Weir, 20, 641 Emeryville Rd., Gouverneur, wrote to the protected person while he was in jail, but it was intercepted by jail staff.
Weir was charged Wednesday with second-degree attempted criminal contempt, a Class B misdemeanor, in Canton Village Court, and with second-degree criminal contempt, a Class A misdemeanor, in Gouverneur Court.
He was issued appearance tickets to answer the charges at a later date.
