GOP candidate for Congress Stefanik appoints St. Lawrence County farmers to agriculture interest group to help with campaign

Republican candidate for Congress Elise Stefanik of Willsboro has appointed supporters to what she is calling a “coalition on agriculture” to help her during the race.

“The coalition encompasses experts from across the 21st District who will work with the campaign to develop common sense solutions to issues the 21st District is facing,” Stefanik said in her announcement.

Among its members are St. Lawrence County’s Jon Greenwood of Potsdam and Peter Braun of Lisbon.

So far this year, Stefanik has appointed a Military and Veterans Advisory Team, a Second Amendment Coalition Group, and an Adirondack Park Advisory Coalition, each with members from every county in the district.

“Farms are an incredibly important part of the economy in the North Country and vibrant, successful farms mean continued job growth in the 21st District,” Stefanik said.

In her statement, Stefanik included some talking points on how she plans to address agriculture issues in the North Country:

“-Fight EPA overreach resulting from the Clean Water Act

“-Ensure our farmers, like our small businesses, are treated fairly and consistently with regards to taxation

“-Scale back the burdensome regulations on North Country farmers

“-Ensure the North Country has a strong advocate when implementing the Farm Bill by requesting to serve on the House Agriculture Committee

“-Help ensure proper mechanisms are in place in order for next generation family farmers to take ownership of their farm without excessive tax and regulation burdens

“-Propose legislation to separate our farm labor challenges from comprehensive immigration reform

“- Ensure our North Country farmers are on equal footing with the rest of the world regarding trade and regulation

“-Prioritize protecting farm related federal field offices over Washington-based offices.”

Stefanik faces Democrat Aaron Woolf of Elizabethtown and Green Party candidate Matt Funiciello of Glens Falls in the contest to see who will replace Rep. Bill Owens, (D-Plattsburgh), who is not running again.
