MASSENA --Massena Minor Hockey is sponsoring a couple of fundraising events to help send the New York Tier II 12U girls’ championship team The St. Lawrence Thunder to Anaheim, California for the national championship tournament March 30 to April 3.
The girls won the state tournament this past weekend in Syracuse.
The Thunder Girls are holding a bottle drive at Laneuville’s Bottle Redemption Center at 301 East Orvis St. between now and Monday, March 28. If you have any cans and bottles you would like to contribute to this effort simply drop them off at Laneuville’s and let them know you would like to donate the proceeds to the Thunder Girls team.
There will also be a celebrity bartender night on Friday, March 18 from 6 to 11 p.m. at Coach's Corner, 191 Park Ave. There will be a silent auction table, and some NCAA basketball games on the screens including the Syracuse game at 10 p.m. The Thunder Girls will be selling 50/50 tickets, which will be drawn every hour. It is also karaoke night at Coach's.
The Thunder Girls enter the Tier II National Championship Tournament as the number-two ranked 12U Girls Tier II Team in the nation.
Members of the team are from Massena, Louisville, Akwesasne, Norwood-Norfolk, and Canton.
