OSWEGATCHIE – Two people were injured and a car was totaled as the result of a four-vehicle pile-up Saturday on Co. Rt. 6, according to St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Deputies said a dump truck driven by Andrew Nichols, 23, 5239 Co. Rt. 6, Ogdensburg, was stopped facing a southerly direction with the dump box up. A second vehicle, driven by Christopher Cryer, 40, 406 N. Meadow Dr., Ogdensburg, was south bound and was unable to see the tail lights of the dump truck.

A third vehicle driven by Scot Nichols, 34, 5239 Co. Rt. 6, Ogdensburg, was stopped in the northbound lane, as he was talking to the driver of the dump truck, according to deputies.

The second vehicle collided with the rear of the dump truck, which caused the vehicle to spin into the other lane, colliding with the third vehicle.

A fourth vehicle, driven by Scott Lapage, 30, 10 Bayley Rd., Massena, was traveling behind the second vehicle and was unable to avoid the collision, colliding with the second vehicle pushing it further into the third vehicle, deputies reported.

The fourth vehicle then exited the roadway, coming to rest in a nearby field.

The driver of vehicle two, Cryer, received some minor facial injuries, but was not transported from the scene.

An unidentified passenger in the fourth vehicle was transported by Ogdensburg Rescue to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, according to deputies.

The driver of the dump truck, Andrew Nichols, was issued three tickets for inadequate tail lamps, driving out of class and vehicle parked/standing on highway. The tickets are returnable in Oswegatchie Town Court at a later date.

Cryer’s vehicle was totaled and removed from the scene by Rishe’s Auto.

The other vehicles sustained only minor damage, and were driven from the scene.

St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by Ogdensburg Rescue and Heuvelton Fire and First Responders.
