Four hurt in 3-vehicle crash on traffic snarled Canton bridges

CANTON -- Three cars in an accident on Canton's downtown bridges resulted in injury to four people and will result in charges against at least one driver, Canton police said.

Witnesses reported to Officer Ashley Coffey that a vehicle coming out of the Cascade Inn parking lot was struck by another vehicle, causing a chain reaction crash.

Police said tickets will be issued after they finish interviewing multiple eyewitnesses.

Three of the injured were taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for treatment and the fourth declined treatment, Coffey said.

The accident occurred at 9:36 a.m. and tied up traffic downtown for about two hours even more than usual during bridge construction.

The bridge is nearing the end of a months-long rehabilitation that had already snarled traffic and frustrated drivers trying to get across the Grasse River at the only crossing for miles around.
