CANTON -- A Theresa woman has been arrested by St. Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies for welfare fraud after allegedly illegally receiving $27,063 in food stamps and heating assistance from 2006 to 2009.
Yvonne M. Colby, 38, of 224 Commercial St., Theresa, and a former St. Lawrence County resident, was charged with third-degree welfare fraud and three counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, after investigation conducted by the Investigations Unit of the St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services.
They allege Colby failed to report self-employment income between May 26, 2006 and Sept. 30, 2009 at social services, all the while receiving social services benefits.
She was arraigned in Canton Village Court and released in her own recognizance.
Yvonne Colby’s former husband Glen Colby was arraigned earlier this week on similar charges.
