COLTON – A 55-year-old woman from Childwold was rescued by state Forest Rangers on Jan. 9 after she was stranded while snowmobiling alone on a county trail.
A press release from the state Department of Environmental Conservation said the woman was unable to extract her snowmobile from deep snow.
St. Lawrence County 911 transferred her call to the DEC’s Ray Brook dispatch office.
Cell phone location coordinates were not available from the woman’s initial call, the DEC said. With her phone about to lose power, the dispatch office texted her, directing the woman to re-contact 911 so her location coordinates could be determined.
The new information allowed Forest Ranger Adam Baldwin to find the stuck snowmobiler within ten minutes after entering the trail with his snowmobile.
The woman continued her ride to her home without injury or need of assistance with the ranger’s help, the DEC said.
