Forecasters: Below normal temps continue today with surges of arctic air moving into St. Lawrence County once again

Below normal temperatures will prevail again today in St. Lawrence County with temps 20 to 25 below normal; however winds will be light which means there is no wind chill concerns, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The high today will rise to around 2 degrees with wind chill values of -17, forecasters say. Winds will be5 to 8 miles per hour.

The overnight low is expected to be -13 with wind chill values of -22, NWS says.

Saturday will remained dangerously cold with wind chill values of -23 and a high of 6 degrees, the service says. New snow accumulation of less than half an inch is possible throughout the day.

There will be two surges of arctic air that move in,one for Sunday into Monday and one around next Thursday, the service says. Very cold temperatures and gusty northwest winds will lead to wind chill issues during these two time periods.

The forecast through the middle of the week is as follows:

Saturday

A 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly after 1pm. Increasing clouds and cold, with a high near 6. Wind chill values as low as -23. Light and variable wind becoming northeast 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Saturday Night

A 40 percent chance of snow showers before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around -15. Wind chill values as low as -23. North wind around 6 mph becoming west after midnight. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Sunday

Partly sunny and cold, with a high near -2. West wind 6 to 9 mph.

Sunday Night

Mostly cloudy, with a low around -19. West wind 3 to 7 mph.

New Year's Day

Mostly sunny and cold, with a high near -4. West wind 3 to 5 mph.

Monday Night

Partly cloudy, with a low around -17. Light west wind.

Tuesday

A 30 percent chance of snow showers after 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 13. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph.

Tuesday Night

A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 4. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph.

Wednesday

A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 16. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph.

Wednesday Night

A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around -3. North wind 3 to 5 mph.

Thursday

A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy and cold, with a high near 7. North wind around 7 mph.
