MASSENA -- Five contaminated county-owned properties in the village will be cleaned up with money from the state, Mayor Tim Currier announced at Tuesday’s village board meeting.

The county acquired the properties after the owners failed to keep up on property taxes. They are at 7 Water St., 13 Main St., 31 Main St., 133 Water St., the former Gardner’s garage, and 141 Water St., a former Cornell’s Dry Cleaning.

The funds will come from the state through the Comptroller’s Office, Currier said.

“Kudos to the county for taking on this initiative. It's a lot of work,” Currier said at the meeting.
