LISBON -- No students were believed injured in a fire that completely destroyed a First Student bus.
The bus was believed to be transporting nine Lisbon Central School District students when the driver saw smoke and pulled the bus off the side of NYS Hwy. 37 in Red Mills near the Lisbon Beach.
The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m., according to Danny Fields of the Lisbon Fire Department.
Unconfirmed reports indicate the students were all safely evacuated from the bus before the blaze spread and destroyed the front of the vehicle.
By the time the blaze was extinguished the front of the bus had been torn apart and many windows had been smashed in.
State police and investigators were on the scene late this afternoon.
A cause hasn't yet been determined, the unidentified Lisbon firefighter said.
All students were believed to have been returned home on another bus.
Flares along Route 37 warned motorists of disabled bus.
State police public information officials in Ray Brook did not return a request for comment.
