"We were leaving our house this evening around 6:20 to go into Massena and see the ice sculptures that were unveiled today, and there was an active fire on Route 420, on the northbound side of the road," said photographer Don Straight of Brasher Falls.
NORFOLK -- An improperly installed woodstove destroyed a garage located at 1322 State Highway 420 Thursday evening, according to St. Lawrence County fire investigators.
The garage was deemed a total loss and a house suffered minor damage from the blaze, officials said.
"I took a few pictures, then had to vacate because emergency personnel were arriving." "This one was taken from the intersection of 420 and CR 38, where they had traffic blocked off when we arrived back home from Massena," Straight said.
Firefighters from Norfolk responded to the fire at 6:06 p.m. were provided mutual aid by Brasher-Winthrop, Massena, Helena and Louisville fire departments, investigators said.
Norfolk rescue was also on scene.
No injuries were reported.
Officials said the owner is Trevor S. Curtis.
The garage was reportedly not insured.
