CANTON – A malfunctioning electrical extension cord has been listed as the cause of a fire that destroyed a trailer at 11 Jameson Rd. lot 31 this morning.
Owners and occupants Bud and Denette Hance were not at home when the fire broke out shortly before 10:30 a.m.
Canton firefighters executed an interior attack and quickly knocked down the blaze that heavily damaged the kitchen and living room.
St. Lawrence County fire investigators said they believe the extension cord, which serviced a Lifeline call system, is to blame for the fire.
Canton firefighters returned to the station at 12:42 p.m. Mutual aid was provided by the DeKalb Junction Fire Department tanker and DeKalb Junction firefighters were on stand-by.
The trailer has been declared a total loss.
