EDWARDS — Edwards Fire Department Chief Richard Anson is warning local residents to use caution when heating with space heaters.
His warning comes the day after a fire at a Cross Street residence Sunday evening.
Anson said firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after 5 p.m. after a neighbor saw smoke coming from under the eaves of the trailer.
A quick knockdown of the small fire limited damage to two rooms, but they were damaged heavily from smoke and water.
Anson said space heaters are a firefighter's “worst nightmare.”
“Shut it off if you’re going to leave the house,” Anson said.
He noted people need to keep everything away from space heaters as they can ignite a fire.
“The fire investigator found clothes melted to the heater,” Anson said.
The home was owned by Justin Frizzell and rented by Tim Raven and his family, which included two young children.
The American Red Cross was assisting the family following the blaze.
No one was home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
Assisting on scene were firefighters from Fine, Harrisville and Star Lake.
